Earnings - February, 2008
Posted on March 1st, 2008 by Jason under EarningsI did say I’d post up earnings monthly; here they are. I’m disappointed as the earnings are considerably less than they were last month, although there are reasons for that no one likes to see earnings drop - I’ll be working on trying to get those up and maybe even break a personal record this month, if possible.
Earnings, February 2008
I withdrew everything at the start of the month (last month’s earnings), so this month’s earnings are pretty easy to track.
In the middle, I withdrew most earnings from this month, most of which came from eBook sales and a website flip.
The withdrawn amount was $1,200 and then current amount of money left in my account is $378.04.
I also made $85.17 through Shopping Ads, which was a nice bonus, considering well… I didn’t do any work for it (bought into a marketing package on Digital Point).

That’s $85.17 in Shopping Ads, a massive $7.4 in NeverBlue Ads and $13.11 in Adsense, where I still haven’t received my PIN and they’ve disabled my account until I verify my contact details - how am I supposed to do that without the PIN?
I’ve got over $500 in Adsense, and they’ve said if I don’t enter my PIN within 60 days they’ll return it to advertisers - I’ve sent them a couple of emails to see what’s up.
So the total for this month is: $1683.72
A lot better than a few months ago but worse than the last couple, which is obviously disappointing.
Why did earnings drop?
- Holidays. Went to India for almost half the month where I didn’t earn a cent as I was away from the computer; everyone needs a break once in a while
- University. Uni started this month and coupled with the pile up of work left (I still haven’t finished most of it) due to me missing a chunk because of the holidays, I’ve had to cut down on online business
- Being banned from DP - through no fault of my own, I was banned and I relied on the place too much, as it was great for small term deals; I’ve learned a bit about diversifying my income, and will be following through with that in the next few months.
How was your February, 2008?
I do have some plans for March, 2008; here’s a couple of them.
Membership website.
Thanks to my good friend Chris @ CGM Technologies the membership website script is now installed; I have to find out how to edit the pages though, as it looks a bit complicated; I should have some free time next weekend though so will try and set everything up
Bloggers Magazine
There are quite a few magazines out there for business - Entrepreneur is one of them, and it focuses on the upcoming gurus; I don’t think there’s an establised magazine solely dedicated to bloggers as yet though. I’m of course by no means an experienced blogger, however I’ve learned enough in my short months so far to be able to help others; I’m thinking articles, interviews, maybe reviews of monetization techniques - it could be a lot of fun. If you’d like to contribute in some way, just drop me an email; I’m thinking run it as an online edition for now and if it kicks off just maybe aim for the big time (and being published in print
).
Affiliate Marketing
I dropped $120 on my first go in Adwords with no success; I’ll be trying a bit more. In recent weeks, I’ve read quite a bit about affiliate marketing, and will be putting into action a few of the techniques I learned. We’ll see how it goes, and I’ll of course update on my progress (good or bad
).
Monetizing this blog
At the moment, this blog is vastly under-monetized; at the moment, there’s only the ad spots on the right and one above the fold. I’m looking at further ways - obviously I don’t want this to become a spam bilboard, but there is room for a couple more ads; I’ll run a post tomorrow asking you guys what you think would work best, as obviously I don’t want to be pissing off any of my readers too much
At the moment though I’ve added Scratchback to the sidebar - a lot of people asked me to add a ‘Donate’ button to the blog, but to be honest I don’t like money just like that - if you want to thank me for my blogging, you can either purchase Advertising or now use Scratchback, which gives you a link for as little as a dollar (which will eventually increase - I’m testing out how good it is at the moment). I asked for a custom widget a month or so ago and I believe it’s finished, so will be eagerly waiting to see what it looks like
That’s all for now - I’ve already received more than 50 prizes (that’s 50 reviews I’ve gotta write
) and of course wouldn’t mind a few more at all; if you’d like to sponsor something, drop me an email ![]()

I’m still very jealous, even though you are disappointed!
My earnings have been very poor this month, I hope to get them up, but not sure how, Might just flip a few sites or something!
Good luck this month!

But what did you have to spend to earn that?
A blogging magazine was started a few years ago and failed. Just giving the heads up that it’s been tried before. Feel free to do better though.
I know the climate has changed, so maybe it’ll take off better.

@ Dan, flipping sites is the easier way to get some quick income. Good luck
@ David, hopefully so aye
@ Andrea, all shown is profit. Not sure about spending tbh.
That’s pretty interesting about the blogging mag - you have a link by any chance? A lot changes in a few years as you said, and as long as it’s well written I can’t see any problems
@ VB, well, that’s why I’m not too worried. Thanks for the tip!
Find affiliate sites to monetize your blog as soon as possible. Only if you earn money you can publish posts about making money that will keep readers here. Stories about “your blog can make money” are not the same as “your blog IS making money”

Jason keep us posted on the membership site. I am sure your
earnings would pick up in March. Any exams on the way?
Anyway banned from DP is a good thing I hope. You can learn new
ways of earning.
I am about to write a post on my Feb earning too, surprisingly this month had been very nice one for me with my earnings reached to double of what I earned in Jan-08.. I am still to calculate income from all sources to come with right figure but it shall be around $2900-$3000 for Feb month.

Pretty solid stuff University Kid. I like what you are doing with this site. Don’t worry too much about the earnings not rolling in right now, your site is still a start-up on paper, so you can expect your numbers to start increasing once you become more established. Awesome start though, I’m definitely jealous

Good stuff Jason. I think I’d label you as a scrappy Internet income generator - a lot of interesting odd jobs that make you money. Some cool stuff on your plate here. I’m especially interested in the bloggers magazine. Best of luck!

Not good to see you banned at DP actually!
But anyways good stats and income report there Jason
Even though you feel disappointed with what you earned, $1600 is still $1600.00 But it’s still a good thing that you earned this much even without DP.

You’re doing extremely well considering how long you’ve been blogging here. Any ways you can earn off the web without being too smart on marketing? I hate the idea of a dominant strategy, lol.

Those sound like decent earnings to me! I’m definitely jealous of the vacation to India. I’m sure it was worth a drop in earnings.
1600+ is awesome.
For me, my income was nearly $1150. I still find 1150 as a good income, specially staying in India
