Leverage Forum Authority To Make Money
Posted on July 9th, 2008 by Jason under Daily RamblingI’ve been informed by a few (20+) people that Blogging + Digg Users = Fail. Will be brainstorming different topics, if you have any suggestions let me know.
I will also be sending an email out to my list with an important announcement today which will be also posted on the blog tomorrow. It involves free, unique stuff so get ready for it.
A forum post on Blog Premiere gave me the impetus to put this up as a topic - although I’ve used this technique in the past, I hadn’t thought of putting it up for a post for you guys. There’s been some top notch information shared at Blog Premiere, which is of course free of charge; check it out if you haven’t. Remember, you only need ten posts to get access to the Private forums where you will be able to download a guide talking (in detail) about how a specific member made $1,000+ in a week blog commenting complete with dofollow list and case study.
The great thing about forums is that you can use their authority to make you money. Large forums, especially ones that have been around for a while have crazy amounts of authority - search engines love them. But how can you, the user, use them to make money?
Targeting high competition keywords are difficult; I’m not advocating you go after them at all. However, newer keywords, ones that have a lot of interest but not a chunk of competition are ripe for you to make money, and this is what we will target.
Whenever anything happens in the media… specifically celebrity related, but also world events (like the recent earthquake) - people are interested, and when people are interested they tend to search.
As an example, let’s look at something that a lot of people were interested in awhile ago - Paris Hilton’s Sex Tape. Celebrities are prone to revealing more than most people and as they’re in the spotlight all the time, people are interested in that kind of dross.
Now, within hours after news was launched, there was a TONNE of interest in this… Google searches went through the roof. If you could optimize a website to get high rankings, you’d make money (hit them with relevant CPA offers…). However, the problem is that new domains can suffer the Google Sandbox, and take far more work to get ranked than domains with authority… so here’s what you do (can be repeated for any topic.
Start a forum thread about your topic and optimize it for keywords. For example:
Title: Paris Hilton Sex Tape - Anyone Seen The Paris Hilton Sex Tape?
Post content: Write a little about it, bold it and link back to your website with anchored text of your choice. You could setup a fresh Blogger / Wordpress.com blog for this, however it’s better you use an existing blog.
I’ve seen up to 2,000 uniques a day by using this little idea. Remember that you don’t only have to target sex tapes (although you could if you wanted to
) but any topic that people will be interested in.
Make sure your blog has a little bit of information about the post, and hit them with a relevant CPA offer above the fold. In the above example, a ‘free iPod’ offer would work well as those kinds of people tend to be gullible.
Today’s a short post but one that could make you a decent amount of money if you work it right. I went to the gym today and tweaked my hamstring which hurts like a……. so going to relax a little. If you have any questions, just let me know ![]()

Good post! It is good to target the very new things that people are interested in. This will bring a lot of traffic to you and your site. BTW, how do you choose what ads are for? I would put some of those free ipod and stuff up, but don’t know how.
Nathaniel’s last blog post..I Need My Sleep!
Saw that post on BP and it got me interested, nice post!

And some people wonder why I started http://www.iBlogtoBlog.com lol… I get to talk about things I like (sports, sexy women, video games, movies, etc) and I rank pretty good in some keywords.
And if you work it right, all those people who come to your blog from search engines can/will convert into RSS subscribers too! Which would help for the Blogging Idol… and yes, I’ve gained like 23ish subscribers since the Blogging Idol on that blog and ALL of them have been from search engines.
In addition, I still have about 10 who haven’t verified their e-mails yet.
But I have to start trying to use the CPA stuff but I’m waiting a little bit before proceeding.

Hmm.. Maybe I could try this with the new Mini-me sextape that just popped out.
(Seriously. It exists. Google for it.)
@ Jay - wow! Looks like you have dominated some keywords! Interesting how 10 people haven’t verified yet though!
@KaruKalamies - does everyone think sextapes are the way?
Nathaniel’s last blog post..I Need My Sleep!
Of all the examples, I’m surprised that the Paris Sex Tape incident was chosen
Gerard’s last blog post..Canon Rock
Heheh, I’m sure Jason found it to be the most appropriate example!

Yes, he really owns a family friendly website!
Nathaniel’s last blog post..I Need My Sleep!
That’s a good idea…but it’s best to get established at a message board or make sure you are allowed to post links…I had one REALLY uptight message board ban me because i had a relevant article i wrote that i wanted to share with the people there because it was useful
blog premiere though is always nice to us
Chelle’s last blog post..This Week on Ebay 7.9
@ Chelle - BP does cut us a bit of slack, and even admins break the rules.
Nathaniel’s last blog post..Affiliates And Advertising
Titles, subject lines, headlines are definitely important. They are the first and may be the only thing the readers see unless they really grab the reader’s attention.
Thanks for sharing your result.

that was a funny example that you have choosen…. but anyways, it’s a nice idea to reroute the traffic from the forumto your post instead for directly giving your website and avoid google sandbox…
by the way, how many of you think google sandbox exists…??? I do, since i have experienced it…;-<
