The Art Of Website Flipping
Posted on January 28th, 2008 by Jason under Daily RamblingDespite the giveaway of my free eBook, I still get at least ten people a day asking about website flipping… what it is, how you do it and so on. The eBook explains what websites to flip pretty well, but doesn’t really cover what website flipping actually is… so I thought I might as well save the loads of questions and just point them at this link every so often
Website flipping is not a science; rather it is an art. You do not have to necessarily be intelligent to do it - heck, I flip websites and anyone that’s ever helped me with, well, anything will know I’m the biggest tech newbie around - if I can do it, you certainly can. With website flipping, you are looking for two things - it to be done quickly (ergo the flipping part) and it to make a decent profit (generally over $25 - $50+ depending on the amount of work you put in is considered good). Once you get well versed at website flipping, you should aim to get $100+ per flip - by adding various things like forums, databases and so forth - there are quite a few ways to develop something that cost you less than $10 (for the domain and hosting) into a decent online venture worth $100+
You can making a decent chunk of change flipping the standard PLR websites, however if you create something unique, you’ll be able to sell it for much, much more - eBook sites are doing well for quite a few people these days while Colin at Mixed Market Arts sold RSSHugger and WordHugger (alright, the second one isn’t so unique, but the first one definitely is) for $13,000. That’s right, thirteen grand
. If you get an innovative idea that you feel might just be the next big thing… take it, and run with it - who knows, it might well be.
I was going to release a series on how to flip websites through that autoresponder, but guess what - their service is the worst one I have ever come across and at the end of the month I will export all emails into a CSV file and look at going somewhere else. I sent Email Aces an email asking for help, and received a curt answer - this is the first, and last month that I’ll be using them and I definitely won’t be promoting them in a positive light.
I would have gone for Aweber, as it costs the same amount… the problem is that they need a credit card, one which I obviously don’t have… convincing my parents to give out their details for a Paypal account was difficult enough, and telling them I want to sign up for an autoresponder that sends emails which require a credit card will be near impossible
Not having a credit card is really a killer - obviously it means I can’t get my own Adwords, MIVA or similar account, while quite a lot of other things are limited. Today, for example - someone sent me a method to write up for an eBook that spoke about getting thousands of USA only hits at a hundredth of a cent each ($0.001) but you need a credit card to follow through with it - I’m not sure if a VCC would work, but if it does I’ll definitely be trying it out… my freebies site could use a few (thousand) USA hits.
I’ll be putting up my earnings for January soon - while I had holidays, I’ve earned slightly less than last month; a combination of being busy with various family related events and a bit of laziness means that I was never truly able to get started on some of the projects that I’ve been hoping to. With university starting, and of course the trip to India… I don’t know how well I’ll do in February but I hope to break this month’s earnings as well as concentrate properly on promoting my websites, including this one. I have an small thing I’m going to carry out to promote this blog in the next few weeks… you’ll see what it is soon, I promise
By the way, I stopped concentrating on promoting my Adsense sites completely (and that includes proxies and the image host) until I get my PIN number - considering it hasn’t arrived for three months now I’m a bit wary and don’t want to waste my time working on something that may not come through. Recently received a massive five bucks for an Adsense referral which was pretty decent - shame they’re removing the referrals by the end of January for blogs outside the USA (and reducing the amount earned for those inside the USA) because a payout of $250 for someone you helped earn $100… that wasn’t too bad at all
I will be out tomorrow morning, but when I get back I need to do a few things, primarily clear up my MSN/Yahoo chat lists - I have around 500+ people combined on both with a good 150 - 300 of them online at a time and while a lot of them are people I enjoy speaking to the rest are annoying little twits that a) ask for advice on stupid things, then disagree with you (ie how much is 929029042.com worth? $0. Really? But I though it can be good you know because the numbers form a pattern. You are wrong) or constantly ask for things like loans and similar. Don’t worry, none of the people I’m talking about read this blog
Gotta run, since it’s 12AM. Tomorrow! ![]()

Glad my sites can be an inspiration. A lot of it has to do with how well you can perform your marketing, rather than how unique something is, although a combination of great marketing with a unique idea is devastating.

People asking for loans, ay? I’ve had my share of those this month. No idea where people got the idea that I’d possibly loan them money, but shit… I’ve been receiving them!

Hello Jason,
)
Thank you for the goodstuff. Frankly I am a frequent visitor to this blog though probably this might be the first comment I am posting here (I am also a lazy arse
I have a little problem with domain with a PR .. I appreciate if you could give me a clue.
Recently I made a bid for a PR6 domain (its a .net). I checked it at the places where everyone else goes for pagerank validation. My Scenario is all are saying the pagerank is valid, but my concern is there are no backlinks to the domain. My questions are…
1. Do you know any methods other than 301 redirect to fake the pagerank.
2. Is it worth buying at least to sell links (Its PR6)
3. How much it will worth a .net domain with PR6 ..(Actually name is not sensical)
Hope an answer for these questions will help to other whom use this site as well too
Thank you,
-Nish

Hate to answer the question since it was directed at Jason, but I might as well throw in my opinion:
1) There are ways to fake a PR. Other than the 301 redirect, I’m not 100% since I’m not an SEO guru. For a PR6, I’d be damned certain there are backlinks…
2) If it’s valid, I would say yes.
3) Forgetting about the domain here since it’s a PR6… you would have to keep building links to keep up its value. If the domain itself doesn’t mean anything, all you have going for you is the PR it has. I’d say min xxx since you can make some cash selling links…. if valid.
This is what I use to check fake PR:

Hi Jason
Check this post out at Sitepoint: http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=527934
It may be of interest, seeing as you are not happy with your current autoresponder. I hope that this is helpful.
Cheers

1) Not to my knowledge
2) Yes it is worth it, BUT the domain is a dropped domain because there are not backlinks or results listed in Google
3) Dunno, I have seem some go for high XXX possibly low XXXX

Building a list is not an easy business and to lose them due to a
non performing autoresponder will be a tragedy.
It is high time jason you use aweber by hook or by crook(I mean use
your parents credit cards :-))After all you are going to pay them back
right!
January 29th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
@ Ryan, apparently you have to be a US resident?
@ Hamza, they’re not as good as last month… I’ll challenge you to beat them, eh, next month
@ Viv, thanks… I’ll look at it. Looks a bit complicated on first view, but I’m sure it’ll be somewhat easy to understand once I ask the local tech gurus
@ Sawan, cheers for the help with the above question. @ Nishante… PR6s (valid ones at least) tend to go for $300 minimum, but then again I saw a PR8 domain go a couple of weeks ago for $200, so you never know…
@ Chenzen… all I can say to that is argh!
I’ll be looking into the credit card
January 29th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
PR8 for 200$, that is crazy!
You could sell one link for the price of that.

i am really in to the idea of website flipping ever since i downloaded your ebook! thanks for that buddy!

Why don’t you ask your parents to open a credit card that is just for your use?
