I think that what you say is true Richard, and in content sites people aren't as willing to give away free links. There are reasons for this, and why people do it.
And content websites are usually just short term or just sit there. They let people make money.

@ Ryan - That post was written by Richard. By the way, blogging is a friendly community where people are not tight, they're humane. That's what I like about blogging.

Great post Jason,
I hate people who are tight with links etc. I really need to start writing some guest posts soon so I can build up the links to my website (at the moment I don't have many)

Ryan @ Smarter Wealth's last blog post..Attempting a Bigger Site Flip

I agree... you should be willing to work with both. A good content site can provide big income.

The reason why I would not want to link out in content sites is that I want my visitors to exit the site via affiliate links, PPC ads or getting deeper and deeper into the site. Anyway, not linking out from your site make it unnatural and linking to authority sites like Wikipedia helps in terms of rankings.

Anyway, if you are able to churn out lots of content for a niche, turn a content site into a blog. Apart from getting a "thick site", which Google loves, you can also target a broad range of keywords as well. ;-)

All the best in building content sites and site flipping,
Wayne

Content sites are great if you are in a good niche and you can make a decent amount with a network of niche sites. However, blogs can take you a lot further online and the connections you will make is amazing.
