This Blog Is For Sale
Posted on December 4th, 2008 by Jason under Site NewsSome (a few too many, perhaps
) will have noticed the listing on Sitepoint’s Established Websites for sale section that’s a bit familiar… that of this blog.
It’s been a fun year and a bit, but all good things have to come to an end… sometime within the next couple of weeks, this blog will be sold and I will no longer be posting regularly on here (although I will drop by infrequently to share some advice).
The reason for this is stuff offline - being a university student (you never would have guessed, would you?
) I have exams coming up, starting on December 13th and carrying through to the 30th, and I’ll have to study for those (I haven’t started yet). After that I’ll be leaving on the 1st of January to go on vacation - to Hong Kong for twenty two days, and then the next term (which actually starts on the 11th of January, so I’ll miss eleven days and need to catch up).
Two months away is a long time, especially online where things are constantly moving - in all honesty I’ve been dropping levels of effort on this blog in for a while now and haven’t promoted it or aimed to maximise its potential - it’s time for someone to take over that can do this and take it to “the next level” (a John Chow / Shoemoney sized superstar).
Can it be done? I don’t see why not, as long as it goes to someone less lazy then me.
I’d like to personally thank anyone who has ever visited the blog, dropped a comment, linked here, sent me an email or just added me on instant messenger for a chat… I appreciate every single one of you doing this and there’s no way this blog will have grown as it has without the backing of you guys. I hope you’ll be as helpful and friendly to the new owner, whoever s/he may be.
Help Me Out
I’d really like to get this sale finished as soon as possible - my time is limited and the faster someone with drive, with initiative takes it over, the faster it can start the explosive growth that should be happening right now.
I’ve you’ve got some time, please spread the word - post about it on your blog, Twitter it, tell people on forums and do whatever you can. It will help me out a great deal.
The buyer will be getting sensational value - at the moment current bid is only $3,500 with BIN of $15,000 - Blog Premiere will be included if the website is BINed. If you are the person that refers the end buyer which purchases the site, I’ll send you 5% of the end sale price through Paypal or 10% if the buyer pays BIN price (that’s $1,500). Think of it as affiliate marketing - if your blog refers the sale, you’ll get a commission. Thanks!
Lastly - I hope you guys will give the new owner a chance; I know some of you like the blog because of the posts on it, most by me, but remember that whoever buys this blog will have some kind of experience with internet marketing but be completely new to blogging - I was new to both once and if you guys could be as supportive to him as you were to me, this blog would be all the better for it. I’ll also be popping in once in a while with a post, and you don’t want to miss out on those do you?
Good luck with your online endeavours,
Jason

It’s going to be so sad to see you go, Jason. You’re blog has really been on of the best around the blogosphere.
Will you still be going on MSN and continuing with other projects, or will you completely stop all online activity?
Anyways, good luck to you in your exams, and be sure to have fun on vacation!

I will be on MSN / Yahoo but will likely respond less. Will not be on at all during January though. As for my other projects - partners are taking over some of them, a lot have been sold and others I will just let die (the smaller ones).
why don’t you give the smaller ones to others (like me :D)
Yeah, I would definitely get others to help you instead of selling. You seem to have a good thing going here. Maybe ask John Chow or Shoemoney what they would do. Maybe they will give you some tips.
Don’t give it up. I wouldn’t if you truly want to keep it. We the mistake of selling a site a few years ago, which my husband started. we only sold it for like 2500.00 and then the person who took it over tried to say HE was the founder and screwed it up, now they are doing nothing with it.
I”m just saying, if you want to keep it, keep it and have other help you.
Good Luck
Ask John Chow or Shoemoney for tips? Hehe.

Though I don’t often comment on your blog, I visit it almost everyday and usually recommend it to people who ask about making money online. You’ve made a great contribution to the MMO world with your energetic, proactive and down-to-earth posts.
On the flipside (’xcuse the pun. Flip. Get it?), I’m sure you’re moving on to bigger projects and we haven’t heard the last of you yet, so I look forward to coming across you in the blogsphere in some shape or form in the near future.
take care, Jason…
It is sad to hear that you are you are selling this blog. I always believe blog can generate a passive income once web traffic and loyal readers are well established..that is my personal thought…

Too many MMO blogs winding up of late… not a good trend, I guess blog flipping is catching up as well which is a good way to make money but at the end the blogs will loose its brand value when the original person behind bows out.
I hope if a passionate ’somebody’ from the university itself can pick it up, that would be an ideal replacement!

It will be sad to see you go Jason. This is one of my favorite blogs and I have publicly expressed that many times by linking to it from my own blogs. Usually when a blog I like gets sold I unsubscribe from it right away because the new owner rarely lives up. However, I will give this one a chance for a while and see what the new owner can do with it.

Really? Already going Jason? I have been with this blog for months, and even though you faced a few challenges you still never sold it! It will be really sad to see you go, atleast you stuck it out for a year. Are you sure you will not reconsider, and just go unactive for 2 months like I did, and then try to pop back up? So many people I know are going, and now you are leaving too? Well bye bye, best of luck! I hope you turn up somewhere later!

Is this yet another symptom of recession setting in?…Jason selling his blog…who never supported personal blogs to be sold away like that?…..I dont know…but we are gonna miss a wonderful asset of our community.
This is sad! After all your hardwork and perseverance in this blog, you’ll be selling it?! Hmmm….
Awww.. Its such a waste to see you go..

So I read this post the day it was published, but didn’t really know how to respond.
As a reader/member that has been along for most of the ride over the last year I must say that I am very saddened to see Jason sell the site. I have learned a lot from TUK and have met a lot of cool people along the way. Getting to know Jason through this site and IM/email has been a great part of this last year online.
I can’t say that I didn’t see it coming though, as it was apparent that Jason was too busy, or had lost interest in managing this site. Not that the quality of content ever suffered, it just became less frequent. Early on the site had a great small community feel, and Jason had even posted that he didn’t want TUK to grow because he didn’t want to lose that environment. But with the great content he was putting out it was inevitable that TUK would grow beyond the “small group of friends blog” into a large resource site attracting new visitors every day. I guess there are positives and negatives to both scenarios!
I will definitely stick around when the new owner comes on board, but I must say they are going to have some tough shoes to fill. I guess we will see how it goes. Hopefully the buyer will keep up the quality of content and fulfill the reader expectations that Jason had previously created. Good luck to the buyer and come into this sale fully knowing what you are getting yourself into!!
All of the above also applies to Blog Premiere! Jason, you have me on IM, keep me updated on your projects and anything you need help with, or can help me out with. Thanks for the great run!
Wow, Jason, you’ve got some really awesome readers!
Hi jason, look what happens, took a break for few months and come back to see your favorite blog up for sale. Man internet life is short.
Anyway jason respect you for your decision. Knew this blog when it started up( remember DP
). Won a contest here for the first time in my online experience. It looks like your favorite childhood/college mall or familiar place undergoing a change.
Well hope the new owner lives up to your tradition of bonding with the readers and having a personal touch to the posts especially the strikethroughs
If you need a partner for any of your other sites hit me up on mail or IM.
All the best for your university course and ofcourse to the auction.
