Two Phat Geeks Can Help You A Lot
Posted on May 28th, 2008 by Jason under Daily RamblingThis is an unpaid review. If you would like to order an unpaid review, please send $50.00 to my Paypal address - thanks. I joke!
The great thing about online business is that you have a lot more chance of meeting a lot of cool people than you do in the real world - I literally have hundreds of contacts that I know that I had never even heard of a couple months ago. People from all kinds of places, all kinds of ages - and people that I’m definitely better off knowing.
One of those people is Melissa, who runs 2 Phat Geeks Dot Com along with her husband, Shawn. This review was due to her winning it in one of the all too many prizes I’ve given away over the past few months, then procrastinated for a month or two and now realised I have to do 5-6 in a row.
I primarily know Melissa through Blog Premiere, and have stumbled across her blog a few times - she runs the popular Stock Photo thread where she gives away IStockPhoto quality pictures for you to use… for free. With due credit of course.
Anyways, enough rambling - the website I was asked to review is 2 Phat Geeks, and that is what I will do.
Ironically , 2PG is a personal blog… detailing the life of well… the two phat geeks. For those of you unaccustomed to teen-speak, phat = pretty hot and tempting. There isn’t a real niche of the blog - it’s a place to ramble, just like this one.
The tagline of the website is shown below and the primary three topics seem to be a) gaming b) personal experiences and c) photography phatgeektography. Yes, there are a few made up words as in the header below.
The tagline is What Geekery Is This.
2PG is a great place to go when you get tired of your regular make money online blogs (*cough*) or similar - what you’ll find is real experiences by real people. The truckload of killer photos help too - their posts are a lot easier to read than here as they are littered with images. Something I promised I’d do, but was to lazy never got around to doing so for various reasons. An example of one of the images that I liked on the blog is shown to the left
In all my reviews, I do look at the website itself, so here’s what I’ve found:
Design
The design of 2PG is fairly clean; nothing looks out of place and it’s un-cluttered. I normally like websites with a lot more colour however the basic aspect of the theme is complemented by the user added photos so this is fine.
Posts
Short and to the point from what I can see. Most of the posts are written in a different style than what you’ll find on other blogs - a little more crude than what your average blog reader is used to, but then again your average blog reader is a bit of a naive moron. Your average blog reader does not read this blog though so if you are viewing this, you’re fine. There aren’t too many video posts, but the one I did come across was pretty funny - more please.
Monetization
I cannot see a single jot of monetization on the website - as it’s a personal blog, perhaps that is fine. A few affiliate links or some flashy banners wouldn’t go amiss, but one of the things that set 2PG apart from other blogs is the lack of clutteredness and banners would clutter it up. Product reviews with an affiliate link - they recently bought a new camera - would be quite alright though.
Anyways, I’m going to end this post here - this is probably the first personal blog I have ever reviewed. Hope that the two phat geeks will get some exposure from this - check them out. ![]()

Not bad, but as you said, a bit of monetization would hurt. He he…

Well I visited the blog. It is petty decent and have simple blog design. Contents good too.
By the way the graphics in this post is little offensive. You know what I mean.
Agent 001’s last blog post..Download Magic of DAP

Wow, Jason, thank you so very, very much for a great review.
I worried a little about the simplicity of the design being a negative, but Shawn and I agreed to choose a clean layout that would draw the readers eye to the words and the photos.
I’m not sorry about our general crudeness tho’ :p
I am tickled pink over this, flattered and appreciate you taking time out of what must be an insane pile of work to do to give us a review (prize or not!), thanks so much!

Monetization stacked, again. Now what?
Aleks’s last blog post..Funny picture - Forza Azzurri
Yea, not sure why there isn’t any monetization. Cash is a good thing. Cash as in MONEY.
Flimjo’s last blog post..YouTube Friday - Yaro Starak’s Review of 50 Great E-Businesses and the Minds Behind Them
The DHL vblog post is great, as well as many of the other posts. A real unique touch of twisted humor seems to be put into most of the posts. I could see the site becoming popular if it was exposed to the right people!
