What Do You Guys Want?
Posted on August 21st, 2008 by Jason under Site NewsThis blog is growing by the day, and I’ve always tried to take reader advice into account while making it grow. Of course, I do not listen and follow 100% of the ideas put forward, or else this would descend into chaos, but the good ones I do try and listen to - even if I don’t act upon them immediately, they’ll remain in the back of my mind.
I’m at a little bit of a crossroads now regarding TUK, and one of the things I’ve always talked about is asking your audience to figure out what they want. I wrote a post about that sometime on here but can’t remember the title - anyways, the basic idea is rather than analyse hundreds of facts and figures, just ask the people you’re pitching to what their ideas are.
I get a lot of private feedback - be it by email, comments on here, instant messenger conversations… the amount of feedback is insane. Here’s the chance for some public feedback. I did this before too, but at the time I was pretty busy… now I have time to make the necessary changes. Any comments you make on this post will be looked at, as all comments are on this blog - I’ll seriously consider the best ones.
One of the things I’ve been asked about is a custom theme for this blog - now, I do have licenses to a few premium themes, and currently use John Cow’s Milk It theme (albeit heavily customized) for this blog, however a custom theme with top notch graphics would take this blog to the next level, or so I’ve heard.
Personally, I’m happy with the current one but wouldn’t mind putting some money forward to get a custom one created; what I’ve heard is that posts are difficult to read on here with the current settings. I do not use images much, if it all in posts here - they tend to be just text. The reason for this is that I don’t have the time to spend hours a day putting out pretty looking images that ultimately don’t help you, and would rather concentrate on content (and other ventures…). If it is hard to read posts on here though, a custom theme might be the way forward. Let me know!
Other points that have been raised are a weekly live kind of chat show - be it plain text or otherwise, video, a paid membership course about website flipping, more interaction (a weekly reader highlight for example)… loads of ideas. Feel free to put any more forward, be it ideas for posts you’d like to see, design, website features, questions, blog changes (ex bringing back dofollow or introducing threaded comments) - rather than wasting my time and yours with changes that aren’t needed, let’s discuss what is.
By the way, I means men and women in the title. Just a general term, don’t want to appear sexist
Thanks in advance for all input. ![]()

I would love to hear the rest of the Bum Marketing Case Study..
Are you ever going to finish it?
BlackhatWay’s last blog post..You can’t own ideas
- Well for a post idea I would love some posts on how to complete bigger site flips (like $500+ per flip) because I need to make some serious money if I want to keep working online (doing 10 smaller site flips a day is too hard, boring and not possible for me)
- Love hearing about how you make money online and how I can implement it…that’s good.
- I KNOW!!! I want to know how you built so many subscribers
I want to know how you build subscribers to this blog and I also want to know how you can build so many subscribers to blogs you are flipping
- Also how do you make money from THIS blog (TUK) because I need to start making more money from my main blog.

Oh and BTW your current theme is fine (except that it is so similar to John Cow and to TheNetFool)
But it is easy enough to read. I like the orange. White background and black writing is always easier than a different coloured background. But its not too bad anyway (plus I can always read it by feed).
Ryan @ Smarter Wealth’s last blog post..Smarter Wealth Competition Begins Today
Sorry for so many posts. Another idea would be getting readers involved in your money making ventures (like helping you write content for your site flips) and then giving us some benefit (like exposure on your blog, or some money)…outsource to us instead of those people of digital point.
Ryan @ Smarter Wealth’s last blog post..Smarter Wealth Competition Begins Today
Personally, even though I consider myself an experienced marketer I have been following the 30 Day Challenge and find those regular videos and TV shows are great for getting me motivated - so your idea of the live chat or similar would down down well with me.
I too think your theme is fine.
Richard’s last blog post..Are Distractions Hampering Your Business Results?
The post articles don’t really jump off the page and the excessive animation of the 125×125 ads draws my focus off of what I’m reading. But other than that… I have no issues. Maybe with a white background for the post text would be better. The contrast of gray and black might be messing with our eyes.
I really like the theme you have. Your mascot needs facial hair as I’ve noticed in your real pictures you are sporting growth.
I would like to see some polls every now and then so we can see what the other readers feel.

Jason, Here is what I want.
I don’t think you are a plugin designer, maybe you are and if so I’ll stand corrected. I’m pretty sure you would know someone who is.
Here is what WordPress needs, big-time. I do not even know if it is possible or not, but if so, then someone should be able to do it.
I would like to have a plugin that when you mouse over someone’s site, or comments box, you could tell if they had no-follow turned off or not.
I think CommentLuv is different than do-follow, but not sure. There’s just a whole lot about the internal workings of WordPress that I don’t understand yet.
What’cha think?

I don’t mind the theme either. I am currently using a generic theme, but have grown to approximately 375 RSS readers nonetheless. That being said, custom is always better; or so I hear…

I like that you are willing to make changes based on readers choices, that’s good.
I think that you should expand more into the rest of blogging rather than make money online. Over the past two months you have brought us rockhard content, but it is mostly about ways to make money online.
As far as the theme goes, I love this theme for this blog, and I think it needs to stay. IO do not have trouble reading it, and it goes very well with the University concept.
I guess I liked The University Kid how it is, but if I had to change it I would like how it was a few months ago such as in April and May.

I think it would be great if you were to take on a few “newbies to site flipping” (cough* ME *cough) and mentor them through the process. In exchange for your time the person being mentored would have to post a “recap” of their experience on your website, and a second post on their own site talking about the experience, and how it helped them. This would be the ultimate lead in and sales pitch to you starting a membership course on website flipping with actual readers providing the testimonials and examples.
I always like to think win/win and I really believe this would work out well for you (cough* and me hopefully *cough).

Could you tell us a bit more about your past endevours with affiliate marketing? I know you’re getting out of affiliate marketing, but it would be interesting to hear about your past experiences, what worked what didn’t etc…
I was going to say add a search box, but then scrolled up to double-check you didn’t have one, and FINALLY found it, lol.
I would love a section that just outlined step by step what exactly you did to go from zero to making $20,000 a month. That would be huge.
Oh to speak of specific content, something other than “not making money online,” then I would like if you explained sometimes step by step how to do things, the technical way. Maybe I should go to a tech blog for this, like how to install wordpress or something crazy, but if you at least hinted at what to do more in depth that would be good.
Also, you should give away $50,000 through a drawing each week, and remember to put my name in there 100 times!

Sexiest - I bet you can sell this blog for a lot more than $6k now
But I think you should show us one of the niche sites you have or recently flipped… so we can see your work!

I too wanted to have custom theme for my blog but i can’t find one. Anyway, i am currently studying javscript. Just finished html and xhtml. Then, i will have a quick review about css. If you have resources to offer, can you please send it to cipals15@gmail.com.
Thanks. I just realized the John Chow, John Cow and the university kid have something in common.

@ Rich Hill - I don’t think this would be a Wordpress plugin but more of a Firefox plugin.
I have found a few for you:
NoDoFollow - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5687
SearchStatus - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/321
What I would like to see as a Firefox plugin is one that would show you the RSS subscriber count.
Maybe something that shows alexa rank, google pr, nofollow/dofollow status and rss subscriber count in the statusbar.

What about a money making or website flipping challenge. You know, a lot of readers would come and start a new blog or site and develop it under your guidance and then at the end of the month flip it for the highest buck. How’s that?

What ever happened to your clickbank product website step by step thing you were talking about doing? If you posted about it I missed it somehow beyond the first 2 or 3 posts… I know I wanted to see the site you were making & the progress on it…
There’s something you did in May or June awhile back that I signed up for, and I don’t remember what it was - but I always thought it was strange it never evolved into more…
Hope you don’t think I’m not being critical, just giving you some constructive feedback
If I were you, I would write an all inclusive tell all guide on website flipping for those who want to learn about it & sell it for whatever price you think is reasonable…then go back to your archives the last 6 months and see whatever things you wrote that said “i will do this” or “I’m planning on this & that” and see what loose ends could be tied up or built upon…
I also need some NEW really good ideas for honest link building (no auto submitters)…I feel like I’ve exhausted everything & don’t know what else to try…
Your theme is fine, unless you’re looking for one that is more ad centered.
Hey you asked, didn’t you? I should really just write you an email, lol. I have an idea that would help us both get less distracted but not sure how it would work yet
Chelle’s last blog post..Taking Your Phone With You Everywhere is Not a New Thing
Actually, I was thinking about your site some more - maybe you could pick 4-5 categories (website flipping, affiliate marketing, blog earning, etc - whatever you would think is appropriate) and put that up top somewhere…I just noticed you don’t have categories anywhere on here, it might make it more organized for newbies or bring attention to older posts…
Chelle’s last blog post..Taking Your Phone With You Everywhere is Not a New Thing
More about website flipping? The theme? I think it needs a script that creates animated dollars bills floating down…
What Chelle said… I was actually thinking about that too. Categories would be nice so we could browse posts by categories and interest.

Hey Jason, glad to see your blog growing at such a fast rate. If you need a theme to be designed for you, I personally recommend Hyder who did my blog.
If you want to read more about him and my review of the design he did for my blog, here it is.
