This Blog Is For Sale

Posted by Jason in Site News

Some (a few too many, perhaps  ) will have noticed the listing on Sitepoint’s Established Websites for sale section that’s a bit familiar… that of this blog.

It’s been a fun year and a bit, but all good things have to come to an end… sometime within the next couple of weeks, this blog will be sold and I will no longer be posting regularly on here (although I will drop by infrequently to share some advice).

The reason for this is stuff offline - being a university student (you never would have guessed, would you? :) ) I have exams coming up, starting on December 13th and carrying through to the 30th, and I’ll have to study for those (I haven’t started yet). After that I’ll be leaving on the 1st of January to go on vacation - to Hong Kong for twenty two days, and then the next term (which actually starts on the 11th of January, so I’ll miss eleven days and need to catch up).

Two months away is a long time, especially online where things are constantly moving - in all honesty I’ve been dropping levels of effort on this blog in for a while now and haven’t promoted it or aimed to maximise its potential - it’s time for someone to take over that can do this and take it to “the next level” (a John Chow / Shoemoney sized superstar).

Can it be done? I don’t see why not, as long as it goes to someone less lazy then me.

I’d like to personally thank anyone who has ever visited the blog, dropped a comment, linked here, sent me an email or just added me on instant messenger for a chat… I appreciate every single one of you doing this and there’s no way this blog will have grown as it has without the backing of you guys. I hope you’ll be as helpful and friendly to the new owner, whoever s/he may be.

Help Me Out

I’d really like to get this sale finished as soon as possible - my time is limited and the faster someone with drive, with initiative takes it over, the faster it can start the explosive growth that should be happening right now.

I’ve you’ve got some time, please spread the word - post about it on your blog, Twitter it, tell people on forums and do whatever you can. It will help me out a great deal.

The buyer will be getting sensational value - at the moment current bid is only $3,500 with BIN of $15,000 - Blog Premiere will be included if the website is BINed. If you are the person that refers the end buyer which purchases the site, I’ll send you 5% of the end sale price through Paypal or 10% if the buyer pays BIN price (that’s $1,500). Think of it as affiliate marketing - if your blog refers the sale, you’ll get a commission. Thanks! :)

Lastly - I hope you guys will give the new owner a chance; I know some of you like the blog because of the posts on it, most by me, but remember that whoever buys this blog will have some kind of experience with internet marketing but be completely new to blogging - I was new to both once and if you guys could be as supportive to him as you were to me, this blog would be all the better for it. I’ll also be popping in once in a while with a post, and you don’t want to miss out on those do you?

Good luck with your online endeavours,

Jason

It’s been in the waiting, but it’s finally here. :)

After countless nagging over instant messenger, email and even a few Skype calls, I’ve returned to the IM product zone… and this website flipping report will blow your mind.

I’ve packed a lot of my knowledge into this report, including some tips and techniques that you’ll have never seen before.

The product is 50+ pages long, comes with a slick bonus report written by me (related to site flipping) that will make you more money. It also has a money back guarantee and after sales support… at a price that you just can’t miss out on.

For just $14.95 (introductory price), you’ll get it instantly delivered to your email. If you’ve been wanting to start site flipping, but haven’t had a clue where to begin… it’s time for that to change!

You can order through the sales page (and see a few testimonials) here. Let me know if you have any questions :)

Are You Interested In Getting Huge Amounts Of Exposure For Your Company Brand?

Posted by Jason in Site News

With a title like this, one has to sit up and take notice. :)

Due to me writing less posts these days (though, hopefully keeping the quality levels up… :) ) I have more time to work on promoting this blog. I do want to take this blog onto 2,000, and then more readers, even though I have been slacking.

However, I’ve always recommended PASSIVE promotion rather than active promotion… yes, if you slaved on your site eight hours a day for a year, you’d probably have a mammoth site at the end of it… one you’d be throughly sick of working on though. The paycheck would be nice if you sold it off, I guess.

I’ve not run a ’standard’ blog contest on here for a long time… and am looking at doing so again. I’m looking for one or two companies to sponsor prize(s), and for it to run a month.

Prizes should be around $200 - $1,000+ in value, and I’d prefer tangible items… however, high quality digital ones will work too. If no one contacts me with anything decent through this post, I will email a few ad and affiliate networks… however, I wanted to give a chance to those that read this blog first.

What will your sponsorship net you? This will be an entirely easy contest, meaning more likely than not a shitload of people will participate. Which is only good for you and your brand.

Your company will get…

Ad space on this blog for the duration of the contest. Both a 468 x 60 ad and 1-2 125 x 125 ads, along with a link in the RSS footer (which goes out to 1,000+ readers every single time a post is written). Ads on this site are in highly visible location, which means your ad will stick in the minds of some of the coolest readers around.

A mention in every single post over the duration of the contest. More exposure for your brand.

People completing a ‘task’ should you ask them to… I’ll make it one of the contest entry tasks, and if it’s easy enough, you’ll get people doing it. Again, more exposure for your brand.

Bloggers linking to you (and me!). More exposure for your brand (you’ll notice a common trend in this post, if you look carefully.. ).

Basically, the end result is a tonne of exposure. Win for your company, win for me, win for those that read this blog. The advertising on this blog and the long term branding you will get is far more valuable than any contest prize sponsored (unless it’s a $50,000 odd valued prize, in which case that might not be true).

I’d prefer to have only one, maybe two maximum sponsors, as this means the maximum amount exposure for each one… high quality and value prizes too, please. Contests with ad slots and eBooks are nice, but they’re getting kind of boring now… :)

if you’re interested, send me an email. You can send it to admin[at]theuniversitykid[dot]com - don’t delay! ;)

What Do You Think About Free Web Hosting?

Posted by Jason in Site News

One of the biggest problems for people starting out online is the startup capital… sometimes getting it is easy, but being able to use it is a whole other matter.

For example, teenagers (those of a similar age to me or slightly younger) can often find that their parents are unwilling to setup Paypal accounts and the like. My parents were wary about doing so, despite the fact that Paypal is used by millions worldwide - I had to argue for months to eventually convince them to sign me up for a Paypal account. Also, those in countries where the likes of Paypal are not accepted (for example, the United Arab Emirates used to be one of those), paying for things can be almost impossible.

Anyways, I’m thinking of buying another reseller account at Hostgator… mainly to offer extended hosting to buyers after my site flips (either free or paid). However, this will likely not be used up much, so I’m thinking of offering all of you that want some free professional hosting, for a blog or two.

Something like 2-3 domains allowed, maybe 5GB bandwidth monthly, a couple GB space. Nothing too big, but enough for smallish blogs / sites you flip… of course, if your sites grow you should get ‘proper’ hosting.

I’m thinking of doing this because I’d like to help some of you guys out… I wanted to do this with Hostican (when I got my dedi server), but had problems because their server was ultimately a bit shit.

However, I need to know if a few of you would be interested… all I’ll be doing is supplying hosting, for blogs only… would you be interested in free blog hosting? Let me know guys, cheers :)

Today’s post is a bit short, but I want answers rather than confusing you guys too much. So what do you think?

1,000 Subscribers Reached!

Posted by Jason in Site News

The count was at 999 yesterday but didn’t want to celebrate too early. Anyways, now it’s reached, so we can party

Just wanted to thank all of you again, and hope this serves as a little bit of inspiration to all out there blogging - I’ve got no skills you guys don’t have, probably less than most of you (considering I still can’t code).

By providing content that helps people, a little bit of creative thinking and a kick ass community, this blog has shot up quite a bit. Take the ideas on here, tweak them a little bit and use them as your own and you will make money.

This blog takes less than thirty minutes a day to run, and this includes writing posts, replying to comments, with perhaps another thirty minutes daily answering emails. It doesn’t make a lot monthly, but I never expected it to. The domain was registered sometime in October 2007 I think, but I seriously started promoting / marketing this starting at the beginning of the year.

I’m really, really tired at the moment - spent the whole day out playing sports, so this will be the end of this post for today and I won’t be answering emails today apart from the ones that need to be.

Anyways, thanks all again, for promoting, contributing, helping out - couldn’t do it without any of y’all! :)
